Bill Smoke is a "fixer" (hired assassin) in the employ of the Seaboard Corporation's top executives. He is featured in Half-Lives: The First Luisa Rey Mystery - which consists of chapters 3 and 9.
Biography[]
Bill Smoke is the hired "fixer" (assassin), who reports to Alberto Grimaldi, the head of Seaboard Corporation, and ultimately Lloyd Hooks. It is Smoke who kills Rufus Sixsmith and makes it look like a suicide and who attempts to kill Luisa Rey. In the second portion of the "Luisa Rey" story, Smoke relentlessly pursues those who are planning to expose the HYDRA project, killing Fay Li and Joe Napier in the process. Smoke is killed by Joe Napier in the shoot-out that also kills Napier.

Film portrayal[]
In the film adaptation, Bill Smoke is portrayed by actor Hugo Weaving. In this version of events, before he is able to kill Joe Napier and Luisa Rey, he is clubbed from behind and beaten to death by a Mexican woman with a wrench for killing her dog and calling her a "wetback".
